To learn about the 90 organizations across 21 counties and Baltimore City that have been awarded a SHINE Grant, visit our website at mdhumanities.org/grants.” SHINE is in all capital letters as it’s an abbreviation. There is a Maryland Humanities logo at the bottom.(Baltimore, MD) – Maryland Humanities is honored to award 90 nonprofit organizations Marilyn Hatza Memorial SHINE (Strengthening the Humanities Investment in Nonprofits for Equity) Grant Awards. Each grantee received a $10,000 award for general operating expenses.

The breadth of this round of grantees covers 21 of Maryland’s counties, as well as Baltimore City. 183 applications came from every county in Maryland and Baltimore City. Maryland Humanities is pleased that a quarter of this year’s grantees will receive their first-ever grant from the organization.

SHINE Grant recipients include not only museums, historic sites, preservation and historical societies, but also organizations less commonly awarded humanities funding such as those involved in immigrant services, nature conservation, and cultural awareness.

General operating expenses include salaries, rent, utilities, supplies, equipment, programs, and other expenses. The grants provide full flexibility to nonprofits, allowing them to determine where funds are most needed.

“I’m proud of how our SHINE Grants Program has grown and appreciate how the Grants Team has helped find an in-road for organizations who may not self identify as humanities organizations but whose work is crucial to keeping the humanities alive around Maryland,” says Lindsey Baker, CEO at Maryland Humanities.
