“GLAF hopes to revive the original Chautauqua experience, where it began in Maryland — Mountain Lake Park,” Callis said. She said there will be a range of local performers presenting historic figures from the early days of the park, including John Wilson as John W. Garrett, Bill Grant as President William Taft, and Mary Ann Jung as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, among several others.

There will be Civil War presentations with author Steven French and local historian Dr. John Rathgeb. Western Maryland historian Albert Feldstein will give a presentation as well, and Doug Mishler will portray Billy Sunday. Period music will be included in the event, with the assistance of Dr. Sean Beachy.

“GLAF is partnering with the Town of Mountain Lake Park for this exciting event,” Callis said.

The Chautauqua has been a traditional offering of GLAF for many years, in collaboration each year with the Maryland Humanities. The Mtn. Lake Park Chautauqua will be held July 5 to 7, and will be free to all audience members, and “family friendly,” Callis said. The festival is provided by grant funding of Maryland Heritage Areas Authority and Maryland Humanities.
